Terms of Service
Effective Date: August 26, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using playSCL.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
playSCL does not currently restrict use by age. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Service with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
3. Service Description
playSCL allows users to:
- Play games on the platform, including games created by playSCL ("platform games") and games published by other users.
- Copy and customize platform games in a development studio, and publish their own version.
- Use "SCLCore," playSCL's engine, to render games to the canvas element directly on the site. Games run onsite and are not converted into standalone files or activated for use elsewhere.
- Coming soon: downloading project files for a game and re-uploading them to continue work elsewhere.
4. Ownership and Licenses
- Your Content: You retain ownership of the source code, games, and other content you create ("Your Content"). We don't claim ownership of it.
- License to Us: By creating, submitting, or publishing Your Content on playSCL, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute Your Content as needed to operate the Service, including showing it to other users and, where you publish it, allowing other users to play it and to copy, customize, and republish it using the platform's built-in tools.
- Our Platform: playSCL and our licensors retain all rights to SCLCore, the SCL language and tooling, and the underlying platform and infrastructure. SCLCore is domain-locked for use on playSCL and its authorized domains only. Nothing in these Terms transfers any rights in SCLCore or the platform to you.
5. User Conduct
When using the Service, you agree to the following:
- Respect for Copyright: You must respect the copyright notices on all files in a project and must not upload or use content you don't have the rights to.
- No Reverse Engineering: You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble SCLCore. This restriction does not apply to using the editing, copying, and customizing features we provide through the platform's user interface.
- Domain Lock Compliance: You must not attempt to circumvent, bypass, or defeat the domain lock on SCLCore.
- No Unauthorized Script Downloads: You must not download scripts from the site except through normal browser operation.
- No Resale: You must not sell or resell access to the Service.
- Content Restrictions: You must not upload, share, or distribute content that is hate speech, racist, pornographic, or otherwise inappropriate or unlawful.
6. Content Moderation and Removal
We may review, remove, or restrict access to any content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or applicable law. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, please contact us at the address below with a description of the content and your rights, and we will review and address it.
7. Account Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account, at our sole discretion, for violations of these Terms.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, playSCL is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim arose.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold playSCL harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.
11. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time without notice.
12. Modifications to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make changes, we will post the updated Terms on this page and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada applicable in Alberta, without regard to conflict of law principles.
